Unmasking Misinformation: Journalist’s Quest for Verified Truth (International Edition)

The Journalists as Fact Checkers workshop, organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Africa for the Womentorship Champions, recently, was an unexpected catalyst for my growth as a female human rights defender. It effortlessly merged with my duties as both a journalist and an advocate, highlighting how journalism serves as a crucial act of service against misinformation. In Zimbabwe, where confirming straightforward facts such as fatality counts from road accidents can be difficult because of restricted access to data, fact-checking goes beyond being just part of one’s job; it transforms into a nuanced but important mode of defiance. One powerful takeaway was learning about “lateral reading,” which pushed me to go deeper than just skimming content and succumbing to click temptations. This change in mindset has provided me with a persistent critical outlook, examining each headline through the meticulous gaze of an investigator. Rather than taking information at ...

Aina Set for Scan — Nuno

Nottingham Forest Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has stated that Nigerian defender Ola Aina will require an imaging test to assess the severity of his injury following his early departure from their 1-0 win against Manchester United.

The Nigerian player was replaced during the 39th minute of Tuesday's game at the City Ground, where an initial assessment pointed towards a calf injury as the cause.

I can’t provide many details; it’s always concerning when a player sustains an injury without contact from another player," Santos stated during an interview with The Athletic. "We’ll conduct scans and assess his condition afterward. At this point, I’m unsure of the exact issue. More information should come through with the scan.

When Aina left, Nuno adjusted their strategy to use a defensive lineup with five players at the back. Social media showed videos of Aina recording his teammates from Nottingham Forest rejoicing post-match victory. The presence of crutches near his place in the locker room sparked worries regarding the seriousness of his injury.

This setback represents a major loss for Forest, leaving the multi-talented fullback uncertain to play in the upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa this Saturday for the tricky Trees team.

Aina has consistently stood out as one of Forest's top players this season, having started all 30 Premier League games played by the team, scoring two goals and contributing one assist.

The 28-year-old leads the league among outfield players in goal-line clearances with three this season.

The Chelsea Academy alumnus has garnered extensive acclaim from both supporters and analysts through his impressive displays, cementing his position as an essential member of Nuno’s team.

Even though Aina left the match early, Forest achieved a remarkable triumph over Manchester United thanks to Anthony Elanga scoring an important goal in just the fifth minute—against his old team. This victory made Nuno the first manager since the renowned Brian Clough to sweep a league series against Manchester United.

Taiwo Awoniyi was included in the starting lineup for the two-time European champions to replace the injured Chris Wood, helping Nottingham Forest secure an important victory in their fight against relegation.
