Zaidu Shakes Off Leeds Rumors

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Championship side Leeds United, insisting there has been no contact between him and the English club, PUNCH Sports Nigeria reports.

The left-back from Porto, rumored to be a possible substitute for Junior Firpo at Elland Road, strongly dismissed these speculations in statements provided to Goal.

"I currently have no connection with Leeds United or any other team. I am not engaged in negotiations with Leeds United, nor have I received a four-year contract offer. They misrepresented this information," Sanusi said.

Reports indicated that Leeds were planning a €2 million summer offer for the Nigerian player, and they had already begun discussions with Porto. They also intended to present the full-back with a contract valid until 2029.

Leeds, who are currently ranked second in the Championship table, just two points behind leader Sheffield United, have apparently noticed that Firpo's contract will expire this summer. They see Sanusi as a possible affordable alternative to replace the ex-Barcelona player.

Daniel Farke’s team is aiming for promotion to the Premier League this season and is thought to be preparing their summer transfer plans with that goal in mind, irrespective of whether they end up competing in which division next term.

This season, Sanusi has found limited playing opportunities at Porto as he recovers from a prolonged absence due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, resulting in only three league appearances for the club so far.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international, who has earned 22 caps for the Super Eagles, has a contract with Porto until 2027, but the Portuguese club has yet to decide if they are willing to sell the defender this summer.
