Chibuku Neshamwari: Second Week of Triumph Continues (International Edition)

Yesterday marked the start of the second week for the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, featuring a provincial-level competition in Mutare.

The contest, organized in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA), began on May 10 with a Midlands provincial challenge taking place at Mkoba 4 in Gweru.

The Muchina Muhombe Bar inMutare was the venue for the Manicaland provincial competition yesterday.

The following Saturday, all routes will converge at Lwendulu Bar in Hwange for the Matabeleland North clash and at EMM Leisure Sports Bar in Banket for the Mashonaland West encounters.

The theme for this year's festival isNgoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay'gubhu Mngane.

The organizers stated in a release, "This year’s festival aims to showcase a dynamic celebration of our culture and traditions via classic dances."

Boasting a history of more than six decades, the prestigious Chibuku Neshamwari festival is preparing for another thrilling edition as it engages audiences by showcasing cultural fervor, dance, and heritage.

Chibuku Neshamwari started on May 10 and will end on July 19.

As a build-up, 10 provincial finals will be held, leading up to the national finals.

Participants have the opportunity to win cash rewards at both the provincial and national levels.

The previous year's victors were hailing from the Mashonaland East province, where they demonstrated the traditional Mbende dance.

The provincial final will see winners walk away US$2 500 with first runner and second runner up pocketing US$1 500 and US$1 000 respectively.

The top prize is $15,000, the first runner-up will take home $10,000, and the second runner-up gets $7,500.

The organisers have urged aspiring participants to register their groups with the NACZ and ZNTDA.
